John Gutenberg is given credit as the first European to print with movable types cast in molds. He did this in the 1450's.

Little is actually known about Gutenberg. He was from Mainz, Germany and used his mother's maiden name, Gutenberg instead of his father's, Gensfleisch.

His masterpiece was the Mazarin Bible or the Gutenberg Bible. It is believed that The Bible was completed in 1455.

His invention allowed books to be printed cheaper, faster, and in huge qualities, allowing people easier access to books. Without his movable type printing press, the Reformation might not have happened.

Even though he is credited with one of the most important European inventions, it is believed by some that he died in poverty. Today, a full Gutenberg Bible would sell in the millions.
