Marco polo was the first to kick off the "age of exploration." He wanted travel so he went to Asia, he later returned and wrote the the "Book of Marvelous," all about his experiences and journeys. Prince Henry the Navigator was inspired by this book years later, and he decided he wanted a faster and cheaper all water route to India without going through Italy because going through Italy was expensive. Prince Henry did not go on those expeditions though, instead he started a school. (he was like- a patron to an artist.) Bartolomeu dias was part of this school. Henry died. Bartolomeu sailed all the way to the southernmost tip of Africa, unlike anyone else before him. Vasco Da Gama sailed around South Africa All the way to India and back! Next Christopher Colombus (1492) sailed the ocean blue and found North America. Ferdinad Magellan, circumnavigated the world, well not exactly. He died in the Philippines before he circumnavigated the world, but his ship (and crew) made it back.
