Actually, Saint Philomena is really not a saint honored by the Universal Church. Her legend is based on a skeleton found in the catacombs and her life story is based entirely on a private revelation. Her cult was approved only for Mungano, Italy, where her relics are kept. Based on the bones found, she was a young girl about 14 years of age who may have been a martyr.
