Ulysses S. Grant served two terms as president. His first running mate was Schuyler Colfax, who was dumped as Grant's running mate in 1872 because of his involvement in a financial scandal. He was replaced by Henry Wilson, who died in office less than two years into his term. At the time, there was no procedure for replacing a vice president who died, resigned or was impeached. -- Gjampol
