The white buffalo calf woman is one of the most important figures in lakota religion. She was comparable to the christians jesus as she brought them their ceremonys and taught them how to pray. most importantly she gave them the sacred pipe. The basic story goes as follows...the lakota people were in a very bad way perhaps starving so two scout were sent out. in the distance a figure apeared and as it aproached they saw that it was a woman. seeing this one of the man had lustful thoughts. the other man was pure of heart and saw that she was sacred. as she aproached the bad man grabbed her and a dark fog enshrouded him and as it parted only bones were left. she told the good man to go tell his people what had happened and to prepare for her coming to camp. she then walked back the way she came and turned into a white buffalo calf. when she arrived she brought the pipe and taught the people the sacred rites.
Buffalo Calf Road Woman died in 1878.
