In 1924 Gee Jon became the first man to die in the gas chamber in the US. Carson City Nevada knew the date for his execution was fast approaching and they hurried a bill through so they could use this most 'humane' form of death legally.

The idea was to pump the gas into his cell as he slept, so he would not have to endure the agony of having to prepare for his own death. They just couldn't figure out how not to kill other inmates and prison personel. That's when someone suggested an airtight cell so the gas could be contained.

The execution was carried out and Carson City, Nevada was quite proud of their painless, humane new death chair.
