The event took place at Mt. Sinai. The entire people of Israel, gathered at the base of the mountain, heard the Ten Commandments spoken by God from the direction of the mountain, and found the experience so fearful and exhausting that they begged not to hear any more first-hand, and for Moses to bring the rest of the Torah to them and tell them about it. The Ten Commandments came direct, not through Moses.

Forty years later, as Moses narrated his memoirs to the people just before his death, and recalled the event at Sinai, he paraphrased the Ten Commandments, not even repeating the exact words that everyone had heard there.

The ten commandments "were" given to the Hebrews alone. " I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee (Hebrews) out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery." Moses "was" just the messenger.

While the 10 Commandments were certainly originally given to the Hebrew people through Moses, they were in another sense given to all mankind as an expression of God's will for all people. Most of them (except for the sabbath day command) are mentioned in the New Testament either explicitly or in principle as God's ongoing will. They also form the basis of much of the legal principle in western cultures. This is one reason why murder and stealing for example, are wrong for individuals to commit against others.

According to the Book of Exodus, the Ten Commandments were given to Moses, for the Israelite people.

The event took place at Mt. Sinai. But if our memory of scripture is accurate, the

entire unified people of Israel, gathered at the base of the mountain, heard the

Ten Commandments spoken in some kind of loud voice from the direction of the

mountain, and found the experience so fearful and exhausting that they begged

not to hear any more first-hand, and for Moses to bring the rest to them and tell

them about it. The so-called "Ten Commandments" came direct, not through Moses.

Also according to scripture, forty years later, as Moses narrated his memoirs to

the people just before his death, and recalled the event at Sinai, he paraphrased

the Ten Commandments, not even repeating the same words that everyone had

heard there.

And:

...Adam.

A study of Genesis reveals that people knew what "sin" was from the beginning. And "...sin is the transgression of the law." (I John 3:4)

"...if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door..." (Gen.4:7).

"...the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; I will go down now..." (Gen.18:20-21).

"...what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin?..." (Gen.20:9).

People knew God's Commandments [the breaking of which is God's definition of sin] from the beginning, in the pre-flood world. It was Moses whom God commissioned to "write them down" for the generations of men in the end time.

"This is he [Moses], that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the Mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the Lively Oracles[scriptures] TO GIVE TO US." (Acts 7:38)

Adam and Eve's sin was the same as every other person who has lived and died throughout history... they chose the wrong god to worship, they coveted what wasn't theirs, they stole it... and they refused to repent of it and tried to blame someone else, and implicate God along the way:

"...the man said, The woman WHOM THOU GAVEST TO BE WITH ME, she gave me of the tree..." (Gen.3:12).

"...And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me..." (verse 13).

God's doesn't have different sets of rules for different people. The Ten Commandments are for all the nations of the world. That's why He first gave them to Adam, from whom all nations would spring.

The Royal Law of God, which contains His Commands may be summed up in one word: Love. God gave His codified Law to Moses and the House of Israel to be an example for all of mankind. You may read of this in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. However, bear in mind that God's Law is eternal and was in place from the beginning. The Law defines 'sin' and we know that our first parents were told not to eat the forbidden fruit or suffer the consequences. We see in Genesis 4:7 where the Word is warning Cain that 'sin' lies at his door - beware.

Jesus came to 'fill to the brim' the Law of God and take away heavy burden the Jewish religious leaders placed upon the people via their interpreting the Law. The Apostles continued with this teaching so it may be said that God's Royal Law is for all mankind.

John 15:10 New King James Version (NKJV)

10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
2 John 1:6 (NKJV)

6 This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

James 2:8-11 (NKJV)

8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture,"You shall love your neighbor as yourself,"

you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.

Answer:The ten commandments were given to Moses and intended for the people of the house of Israel (all 12 tribes), and those who chose tosojournwith with house of Israel. These are the people who Moses lead out of captivity to Egypt, and they are the family who is directlydescendedfrom Adam. You will find the account written in Exodus 32.

The 10 commandments are often referred to as "The Law" in biblical text.

Christ is quoted by Matthew in verse 5:18 in this manner;

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, thill all be fulfilled"

Paul explains how this applies in Romans chapter 3, and who it applies to. I have not the wisdom our Father gave to Paul, so I will allow his answer to provide the truth you seek.

Because of His covenant with them (Exodus ch.24), God specifically honored the Israelites with being the nation which would be the ones to receive and treasure the Ten Commandments (Exodus ch.19-20) until they had been absorbed by humanity in general. These Commandments are so important that God revealed His presence to the entire Israelite nation when He spoke these Commands. And He scribed them in stone (Deuteronomy ch.9); unlike the rest of the Torah, which He had Moses write (Deuteronomy 31:24).

In Exodus 19:25 Moses was told to go back down the mountain to the people and immediately afterwards the Ten Commandments were given.
