Well the Ancient Egyptians were polytheistic, meaning that they believed in more than one god. But Ra, the sun god, was the king until he "retired" leaving Osiris in charge but then Set got rid of Osiris and when Isis found him again Set blew him up into tiny pieces and when Isis finally put him back together he wasn't fit to rule the living so he ruled the dead and Horus became king.
