If you are referring to "American President" There wasn't one. George Washington was the first president of the United States and served from 1789 to 1797. He also served as the commander of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783.
In 1778, the President of the United States was not established as the country had not yet gained independence. The American Revolution was ongoing, and the Congress of the Confederation served as the governing body.
