The anniversary occurred on July 4, 1826 all over the world as the day dawned.

It was celebrated most widely in the US where virtually every community holds some type of celebration using ending with fireworks as soon as it gets dark. Parades, festivals in the parks and sports events are all common. The Declaration was signed in Philadelphia, so they undoubtedly had a special celebration there. It was a sad day for the Adams and Jefferson families since John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died that day.
