Queen Isabella I of Castile and León together with her husband King Ferdinand II of Aragon were co-rulers of what was to become the nation of Spain.

Queen Isabella I wasn't Queen of Spain as many think, but the Queen of the Kingdoms of Castile and of Leon, nor was Ferdinand the King of Spain but the King of Aragon.

Spain was not united until all three kingdoms were inherited by Carlos I in 1516.

Isabella I was the Queen of Castile and Leon, and was co-ruler with her husband, Ferdinand II, King of Aragon from 1474 until her death in 1505. The couple never ruled Spain. Spain was unified (became what we know as Spain) under their grandson Charles V Holy Roman Emperor.
