Freedom of the press is protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution. The right to free speech without restraint was upheld in the Supreme Court case of Branzburg v. Hayes. In 1931, Near v. Minnesota used the Fourteenth Amendment to include Freedom of the Press in state courts as well. .
Who started the freedom press?
The First Amendment reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Basically, the freedoms guaranteed are the establishment or the exercise of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, peaceful assembly of a group, and the right to petition the courts or Congress to change something.
Freedom Press was created in 1886.
Foundation for Press Freedom was created in 1996.

the first amendment gives you freedom of the press
Eternal vigilance is the cost of freedom. In the United States forces are constantly trying to restrict freedom of the press. The press and the courts constantly fight back. Political correctness has muzzled some groups. The exact opposite of political correctness, The Ku Klux Klan, has also muzzled some groups. Years ago on one campus, the administration stopped publication of a student newspaper because it favored integration. The courts frequently are quite useful for guaranteeing freedom of the press. England does not have the same freedom. In England if a person feels that the press has slandered him, that person can sue the press. In face, you could make an insulting remark about anyone in the world and that person could go to an English court and sue you. No one from England should come to the United States and try to collect a penny of that money, however. The event did not happen in England therefore that court had no jurisdiction. That lawsuit would not be recognized and the attempt to enforce it would be a felony.
