The Camp David Accords were signed by Egyptian President Anwar EI Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin September 17, 1978, following twelve days of secret negotiations at Camp David. The two agreements were signed at the White House, and were witnessed by United States President Jimmy Carter. The Accords led directly to the 1979Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty. They also resulted in Sadat and Begin sharing the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize.

peace negotiations with Israel. In recognition of that achievement, he shared the
1978 Nobel Prize for Peace with Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. Under their
leadership, Egypt and Israel signed a peace treaty in 1979. In recognition of that
achievement, Sadat was assassinated in 1981 by Muslim fundamentalists, during a
military review celebrating the Suez crossing in 1973. He was succeeded by his Vice
President, Hosni Mubarak, who remains president of Egypt after 29 years.
