Michigan Governor's Mansion was created in 1957.
Mason became the appointed governor on July 6, 1834, and served until September 15, 1835. He was replaced by a Jackson appointee, John Horner, who continued as the nominal territorial governor until July 3, 1836. Michigan voters had already elected Mason as governor in October, 1835, although statehood was not granted until January 26, 1837.
Stevens T. Mason was Michigan's first governor.
