Civilian's abuse the term hero. Everybodys a hero, like just wearing a uniform (ANY UNIFORM)! In the real military, in a real war; men have to EARN medals (for the most part; even in the service, political correctness seeps thru the cracks). The US military has "V" devices denoting VALOR, and regular medals such as the Silver Star, Crosses, Medals of Honor, etc. A Bronze Star for example, during Vietnam as one example, could be issued for MERITORIOUS Achievement; if the Bronze Star was for heroism it would have to be accompanied by the metal letter "V" (and this about the actual size of it too). The "V" device would be pinned to the cloth portion of the medal, or the ribbon itself. US Military medals are normally issued with an accompanying ribbon; in the US military, it was the ribbon that was traditionally worn, the medal itself was only worn with the DRESS BLUE uniform. And even then, US military men preferred the ribbons, much easier to wear, maintain, and didn't so much look like a foreign military officer (usually a communist one).
There were thousands of these medals handed out (issued/authorized/awarded/which ever term you wish to use) during the war. And everyone of them REQUIRED a written reason for their issue to those men. Those written reasons were called ORDERS. Without them. No medal!
And if the reason wasn't good enough; request denied!
So, the question is "...who was the hero who fought in Vietnam and saved alot of lives?"
Response: There were thousands of brave US Soldiers, US Marines, US Sailors, US Coast Guardsmen, and US Airmen who fought in Vietnam. And not all of them received medals. Many did, many did not. And nearly all of them that were pinned with the title "hero" saved some human lives.
Over 50,000 Americans were killed and missing in action during the Vietnam War.
How about: "What values or benefits can be placed on the 58,000 plus American lives lost during the Vietnam war?" or "The protests by young people during the Vietnam War successfully changed U.S. Foreign Policy and ended the war."
religion impacted for the land the christians fought for the land and so did the muslims that impacted a big thing on religion
Although Vietnam was part of the lives of presidents Eisenhower & Kennedy, the war dominated the lives of Commander in Chief's LBJ & Nixon. Watergate effectively eliminated Nixon from the position of C & C (Commander in Chief), and when he left office (resigned) there was NO ONE remaining to defend South Vietnam...and Congress immediately went after the Vietnam War...by completely cutting off any further funding to South Vietnam...with no shells for their artillery, no fuel for their tanks, and other accouterments of war, the south quickly fell to the northern invaders.
The reason why it is impotant to remember soldiers who fought during war is because they sacrificed their own lives for us. They gave our country freedom. They beleived in our country and in themselves. That is why it is important to remember soldioers who fought during war.

About 58,209 U.S. military service people died in the Vietnam War. About 645,000 Americans died during the Civil War fought in the U.S.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a National War Memorial honoring the members of the US Armed Forces who died or are unaccounted for during the Vietnam War. It is not a monument to the Vietnam War. It is a monument to people that gave their lives serving their country.
