Cecilia was thought to have been originally buried in the Catacomb of Callistus but was soon moved to the Catacomb of Prætextatus to prevent possible depredation by the Lombards ravishing areas near Rome. In the 9th century Pope Pascual I had the relics of St. Cecilia with those of Valerianus, Tiburtius, and Maximus, also those of Popes Urbanus and Lucius, reburied under the high altar of St. Cecilia in Trastevere.
