United States: John Tyler at the start of 1845, replaced by James Knox Polk

John Tyler (born March 29, 1790 in Charles City County, Virginia; died January 18, 1862 in Richmond, Virginia) succeeded William Henry Harrison as the tenth President of the United States, serving between April 4, 1841 and March 4, 1845, including the whole of the year 1844. Tyler had no Vice President as he was elected as Harrison's Vice President. Tyler ascended to the presidency following Harrison's death in office.

James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States from 1845 March 4 to 1849 March 4. He was elected in 1848, following Tyler's withdrawal from the presidential race.
