It was said to have appeared in The Times of London in early 1907.
Unfortunately, it is a myth, an urban legend. It never appeared in any newspaper. People have spent countless hours looking at the records of all newspapers of that time in the hope of finding it, as rewards have been posted for the first person to find it.
It has been attributed to Ernest Shackleton, but no record exists of him placing such an advert.
