This is debateable. While the first medically documented case of anorexia didn't appear until the 1800s by two English doctors, there are various reports that date much farther back than that. Some Greek writings indicate people starving themselves (for otherwise un-known reasons, not health or medical), which is a large factor in anorexia. Some believe that Catherine of Sienna might have had an eating disorder, as some monks wrote that she died from only eating berries and fruits and nothing else, a sign of anroexia.
