American Samoa has a Constitutional republic, representative democracy form of government. American Samoa is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Its current governor is Lolo Letalu Matalasi Moliga, and the governor is the head of the government.
By becoming American Samoa's first native born governor, he paved the way for greater self-government. He was the first Samoan lawyer, he presided over the adoption of the first constitution, authorized design of the first flag and was the second longest serving governor anywhere in the history of the U.S.
I am not sure which chiefs you mean. One of the last ones, around 1899, was Tuimanu'a Elisala. But since then, American Samoa is a United States territory, and its leader is whoever the current American president is-- in this case, President Obama. American Samoa does still have its own local leader, but it's not a chief-- it's a governor. The current governor is Togiola Talalelei A. Tulafono.
American Samoa was found before it became a US territory. It was simply the 'eastern' islands of Samoa. Samoa was first discovered in 1722 by a Dutch explorer named Jacob Roggeveen.
It used to be one whole country. Samoa. Until world war I when the US occupied American Samoa for its naval base in Pago Pago, and Western Samoa was occupied by Germany, and then NZ. Now, Samoa (no longer called Western Samoa) is an independent country, whereas American Samoa is still a US territory (but is governed by Samoan representatives and a Samoan Governor). So now there is American Samoa and Samoa.
They are the same in that Samoans in American Samoa and Samoa (once Western Samoa) have the same heritage. However, American Samoa is a US territory while Samoa is an independent nation. So they are in effect two different countries.
There is not a princess in American Samoa. American Samoa is ran by the U.S. government.
