What would be called a Prime Minister in other countries is known as a Taoiseach in Ireland. Before 1938, the term used was President of the Executive Council. The first person to hold that title was William T. Cosgrave, who held it from October 1922 to March 1932. When the term Taoiseach was first used, Eamon DeValera was the person to first hold it.
he was taoiseach 3 times. first in 1937-1948, then he succeeded the first coalition in 1951 until 1954, then again in 1957 he succeeded the 2nd coalition until 1959, when Sean Lemas became Taoiseach.
David Trimble and Ian Paisley have been the First Minister of Northern Ireland. The position is now held by Peter Robinson.

he was the first Taoiseach and the tird President.
He was not the first prime minister of Ireland. He first became President of the Executive Council, the equivalent of what other countries would call a Prime Minister, on the 9th of March 1932. He was not the first person to hold that position. WT Cosgrave held it before he did, taking the position in December 1922. During the time that Éamon De Valera was President of the Executive Council, a new constitution was written and the title was changed to Taoiseach, the title still used today. He was the first person to hold the title of Taoiseach.
The title "First Minister" is used in Northern Ireland. This office is current held (4th February 2010) by Peter Robinson, with the Deputy First Minister being Martin McGuinness. In the Republic of Ireland the head of government is known as the Taoiseach. The current Taoiseach is Brian Cowen.

Ireland does not have a Prime Minister. It has a Taoiseach who is similar to a Prime Minister and It also has a President. The current Prime Minister is Enda Kenny and the current President is Mary McAleese.
Ireland's head of government is called a Taoiseach, not a Prime Minister. There has never been a female Taoiseach. The head of state is the President. Ireland has had two female presidents, first Mary Robinson (1990 - 1997) and then Mary McAleese (1997 - 2011).
In Ireland the head of government is known as the Taoiseach. Currently (October 2012) Enda Kenny is the Taoiseach. The head of state is the president, currently Michael D. Higgins, but the head of government and head of state are separate roles. You can go to Ireland's website for the government for more information.
The free state of the Republic of Ireland has neither king nor queen. Until May 07, 2008, the Taoiseach of Ireland, or Prime Minister, was Patrick Bartholomew (known as Bertie) Ahern. Mr Ahern resigned on May 06, 2008, and was succeeded by Mr Brian Cowen. On Mr Cowen's resignation, he was succeeded as Taoiseach by Mr Enda Kenny, appointed by Ireland's President Mary McAleese on March 09, 2011. Mr Kenny is still currently Taoiseach of Ireland, at May 21, 2011. Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom and therefore Queen Elizabeth II is queen of that part of Ireland. The United Kingdom has no king.
People first came to Ireland over 8000 years ago, so it is not recorded as to who was the first person to arrive.
An Irish president, the head of state can serve two terms of seven years each. The leader of the Irish government is a separate position. The official title is Taoiseach. A general election must be held in Ireland at least every 5 years. After an election the Taoiseach is chosen. The same Taoiseach could be chosen again, so there is no limit as to how long a Taoiseach can serve.
