Fritz Suter started watch manufacture in Buren in 1873. In 1898 after his company Fritz Suter & Cie. was bought by British firm H. Williamson Ltd. the Buren Watch Company was created. Following the Stock Market Crash of 1929 Williamson sold the factory in Buren to a local group of new shareholders and the swiss-american financier Roland Gsell. Thus Buren Swiss watch factory known as Buren Watch Co. S.A. begun making watches under a Swiss management that year. Hamilton Watch Co. (USA) bought Buren in 1966 but the Buren ceased watch production in 1972 following drop in demand for mechanical watches.
