John Connolly was the Governor of Texas and was in the car with President Kennedy during his assassination in Dallas on November 22, 1963. Connolly was also injured in the shooting. There is no evidence to suggest that Connolly was involved in any way with the assassination, and he was later cleared of any wrongdoing.

I have no information on the campaign button, however I remember that John Connolly was riding in the car with John Kennedy when Kennedy was shot. John Connolly, a Texas politician, was the Governor of Texas at that time. He too was hit by a bullet, and seriously wounded, but recovered.
