It's a very subjective question. There were thousands of Samurai in Japanese history, but my personal favourite was the English sailor William Adams born 1564 who was given the honour of being the first non-Japanese Samurai.
The reason i would give for Adams being famous is that James Clavell wrote a book which was fictional character called Captain John Blackthorne, but was based on William Adams exploits. The book called "SHOGUN" which was a number one best seller in 1975 and was subsequently made into a series.
