The iPod was most likely given its name due to the series of iMac computers that Apple sold. Originally the "i" was said to stand for internet, at the time however there was no direct link between iPod and the internet. Apple have a series of consumer level products which use the "i" Prefix, including iLife it's suite of software applications including iTunes and iPhoto. Recently Apple dropped the "i" prefix for its series of consumer level notebooks instead choosing instead to use "Mac" as a prefix instead. Previously the consumer aimed notebook was called the iBook however the line is now called the MacBook.
