I think it was the Seminole Tribe in modern day Florida. Don't put me as a source for a research paper though, because I could be wrong on that.
1861
Abraham Lincoln as commander in chief, sent union troops to the South.
They may have been very thinly spread compared to the population of the planet today, but they were all over the US and Canada. From Quebec and New England tribes, south to the Seminoles in Florida, and westward to the tribes of Washington and California. There were also many tribes such as the Arawak in the West Indies and northern South America, and the Aztecs and other surviving tribes of Mexico and Central America.
Generally not. The government in Washington was the same one which had, without variation, uniformly screwed the tribes in each and every treaty, and had forced them onto the Trail of Tears. The only unit east of the Mississippi, north or south, which had organized Indian components was Thomas' Legion of North Carolina. It had four companies of Cherokees from the Eastern Band. In Oklahoma (which then was then the Indian Territories) there was a Civil War within the western band of Cherokees, over which of the white mens' governments to support. Stand Waite of the western Cherokees was the only Native American general in either Army, and he was a Confederate. Individual Indians served in many units, north and south. Eli Parker, a Seneca, was an aide to General Grant, and was present at Appomattox, in the room when Lee signed the surrender. As Lee was leaving he noticed Parker and stopped, and said "I am glad to see a representative of the original Americans here today."

On August 3rd, 1795, General Anthony Wayne forced the Indians to sign the Treaty of Greeneville. This treaty forced the Indian to move to the northern part of what is now Ohio. In doing so, they gave up their lands to the south and east so the whites could form settlements. Indian tribes involved were Miami, Wyandot, Shawnee, Delaware and other tribes.
