Samuel told Eli that God was angry with him for not having control over his sons. His sons were not doing the offerings according to the law and they were so mean about it and disobedient to the point that few wanted to bring sacrifices.
Samuel's sons, Joel and Abijah, were known for taking bribes, as mentioned in the Bible (1 Samuel 8:1-3). This led the people of Israel to demand a king to rule over them, instead of the prophet's corrupt sons.

It ends in 1 Kings 2:7 when the followup to the curse comes true during the time of King Solomon, many years later.
