St albans was the first british christian martyr. His executioner on seeing St alban part a river to let him pass (in legend) , converted to Christianity on the spot and refused kill St albans. After some one else executed St alban, he was then executed and so became the 2nd british martyr.

It is widely believed that the first "official" British Christian martyr was St. Albans who was killed in Roman Verulanium (currently, St. Albans) in 209. However, it is equally widely known that early Christians among the Roman invading army were the first Christians and that they suffered persecution. Whether any were martyred or not is not known
