Best Answer

There was no General-in-Chief of Cavalry.

They had many distinguished cavalry leaders. Greatest of all was Bedford Forrest, and Jefferson Davis said later that his biggest mistake was refusing to promote Forrest (on the grounds that he was not a gentleman).

The rest included JEB Stuart, Jubal Early, Joe Wheeler and Turner Ashby.
