The north actually wins the civil war. They are also called the union.

The English Civil War (1642-1651) was a series of armed conflicts and political machinations between Parliamentarians (Roundheads) and Royalists (Cavaliers). The first (1642-46) and second (1648-49) civil wars pitted the supporters of King Charles I against the supporters of the Long Parliament, while the third war (1649-51) saw fighting between supporters of King Charles II and supporters of the Rump Parliament. The Civil War ended with the Parliamentary victory at the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651

The civil war lasted 3 years. Here is 5 Facts bout da civil war init; The English Civil War started 1642 and ended in 1649.Many people were killed during the war.The English Parliament had the better army so they eventually won the war. After the Civil War, the king, King Charles I was beheaded. There were 3 main battles: The Battle of Edge hill, 1642,the Battle of Marston Moor, 1644and The Battle of Naseby, 1645-your welcome :) By: Ally Howard:)People in 7FT copy from me ;)The English Civil War was being fought because Puritans thought the King was acting illegally in the name of England, a protestant country, by setting up Catholic churches, as influenced by the King's Catholic wife. They then went to war, and it was basically the people versus the King, and there was not just one war, there were three. Oliver Cromwell was the leader of the people's side and he was a strong believer of democracy, so as the war raged on, some new reasons were added, like making England into a democracy. Once the war was over and the people won, the King was executed and the title of monarch was dissolved. However, the English people weren't ready for such a huge step towards democracy, so they offered Cromwell the crown. Cromwell refused, but did go back to Parliament. When he got there he decided to just take over the country as Lord Protectorate, not necessarily a king. The irony is that Cromwell just went to war all these years to get rid of an autocracy, and he made England into an even bigger autocracy than it was before the war.
