The battery consisted mostly of men from Baltimore City and surrounding counties, all volunteers. They went to France in October, 1917 with 179 men and officers, received 50 replacements while in France. They went into combat in late February, 1918 and returned to Baltimore in April, 1919. The unit fired more mortar bombs than any other mortar battery in the AEF and earned nine battle streamers: Lunéville sector, Lorraine; Baccarat sector, Lorraine; Esperance-Souain sector, Champagne; Champagne-Marne defensive; Aisne-Marne offensive; St. Mihiel offensive; Essey and Pannes sector, Woevre; Meuse-Argonne offensive, first part; Meuse-Argonne offensive, second part; Army of Occupation, Germany.

They were a highly decorated unit, and considered themselves very lucky not to have lost more than six men killed, having only 97 men to march in their welcome home parade in downtown Baltimore in May, 1919. I have a roster of names and addresses if you want more detail.
