The population of greek begun to grow and there was not enough food and land for people so it developed its colonies.It then became stronger and stronger.In 5 th century,Persians took all the colonies and then attacked the greek city-states because of jealousy.And started the Persian War.It holds for 10 years!There are 3 major battles during the Persian War:

1.Battle of Marathon(490 BC):Athens won Presian with a smaller army.

2.Batton of Thermopylae(480 BC):The Persians attacked Greece again.It defeated Sparta in Thermopylae and then took Athens and broke down its Acropolis.

3.Battle of Salamis(480BC):The Athenian navy defeated Persians at Salamis.Persians were driven out of the Greek peninsula in 479 BC.

There were many battles in the fifty years of the Persian War 499-449 BCE - they were at sea as well as land.

Some of the more significant were at Lade 494 BCE, Marathon 490 BCE, Salamis, Plataia 479 BCE, Mykale 479 BCE, Eurymedon 466 BCE, and Cyprus 450 BCE.

There were a few hundred Greek city-states involved in the 50-year Persian War - some were allies of Persia (eg Thebes, Argos), others banded together in opposition eg Corinth, Aigina, Sparta, Athens.
