- Chief Comcomly (1754 - 1830) the principal chief of the Chinook Confederacy. He was a shrewd old man with only one eye. He received medals from Lewis and Clark. He assisted the Astor Expedition.
- Ranald MacDonald (1824 - 1894) was the first man to teach the English language in Japan. Grandson of Chief Comcomly. Son of a Scottish fur trader. He taught English to Einosuke Moriyama, one of the chief interpreters to handle the negotiations between Commodore Perry and the Tokugawa Shogunate.
- Catherine Herrold Troeh (1911 - 2007) was an American historian, artist, activist and advocate for Native American rights and culture, especially in the Pacific Northwest. She was an elder of the Chinook tribe and a direct descendant of Chief Comcomly.
