He served two terms from 1869 to 1877. The 19th US President, Rutherfor B. Hayes, was the third Republican President. His term was from 1877 to 1881. The 20th US President, James Garfield, was the fourth Republican President. He was the only US President to have been a preacher and the last to ascend to the Presidency straight from the House of Representatives. He was the fourth? President to die in office and the second? to be assassinated. He died in 1881 after being shot by a "disgruntled job seeker." The 25th US President, William McKinley, was the seventh Republican President. He was elected to two terms but died shortly into his second term. He served from 1897 to his death in 1901. He was the fifth? President to die in office. The 27th US President, William Howard Taft, was the nineth Republican President. He served as President from 1909 to 1913. He was the only person to serve both as a US President and as a justice on the Supreme Court. In fact, he entered the U.S. Supreme Court as its tenth Chief Justice. The 29th US President, Warren G Harding, was the tenth Republican President. He was the sixth? President to die in office. His term was from 1921 until his death in 1923.
