The Burnett Brothers. They all fought on the Southern side for the Confederacy.
Massachusetts. North Carolina was one of the eight slave-states of the Upper South whose loyalties were undecided until the firing on Fort Sumter - it was one of the four that voted Confederate.
The Wright brothers are remembered for making the first airplane. In school, you will learn about them in history class.the wright brothers were the first people to design and build the first motorised aeroplane.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Very wrong.Otto Lilienthal and others had built motorized airplanes many years before the Wrights did, the problem was the earlier airplanes were uncontrollable and at best could only fly in perfectly straight lines. What the Wright brothers did that nobody before them did was design a "wing warping" flight control system that permitted controlled powered flight with full maneuverability. They were the first to successfully fly in a horizontal figure eight path.
It was 78 years between the Treaty of Paris (1783) and the declaration of war by the Union (1861). Not all of the years were spent on US domestic policies, as the War of 1812 began 31 years after Yorktown and ended 47 years before Fort Sumter.
One that was a long time in sinking in is this: if your enemy is entrenched, and equipped with rifles, it is extremely costly to send your own men running at his positions in a frontal attack. This is a very bloody approach to the problem, and, seven times out of eight in the Civil War, it did not work. All the officers of both sides had studied at West Point and learned all about Napoleon. But in Napoleon's time the soldiers had inaccurate, smooth-bore muskets. In the US Civil War they had much more accurate, rifled weapons, with a much greater range. Trying Napoleonic tactics against this improved weaponry resulted in mass carnage. Commanders on both sides were slow to learn. What's more inexcusable, though, is the fact that the European generals learned nothing from this lesson. They considered that there was nothing instructive for them in the American Civil War, which they believed amounted to two armed mobs chasing each other around in the woods. Nothing there applicable to Europe. So, fifty years after the American Civil War ended, having largely been at peace for a century, European generals of every nation eagerly, bravely hurled their soldiers at the entrenched foe, who now had not a single-shot muzzle-loading rifle capable of three shots per minute in the hands of a trained man, but machine guns capable of firing six hundred shots per minute. Of course the slaughter was incalculable. But, unlike the generals of the Union and Confederate armies, the Europeans two generations later NEVER learned any better.
There were no US Silver Dollars minted in the year of 1793. The first Silver Dollar coin minted was the Flowing Hair Dollar and it first year of mintage was 1794.HoweverThe first United States legal tender silver dollar was minted, not here, but in Mexico City. It was the Eight Reales, the "Pieces of Eight," whose scrolls on its obverse were the origin of the American dollar sign. The Eight Reales was the largest and heaviest silver coin minted for over 200 years, actually bigger and heavier than the Morgan Silver Dollar. These Eight Reales were minted between 1772 and 1826, the beginning of American silver coinage.America's first silver dollar, a type of Spanish milled dollar, was minted at some of the oldest mints in the New World. Mexico, Peru, and Bolivia were among the countries to produce this treasured coin. It was the basic currency of our Founding Fathers, widely circulated during the Colonial and Revolutionary eras and used as legal tender until 1857.The "piece of 8," as the coin is often called, had a value of 8 reales. Merchants would break the coin into eight pieces, each commonly know as a "bit," allowing for purchases of other than whole dollar amounts. The value fluctuates, as there are 'replica' coins out there. I would look for the 'chop marks' that were used by merchants to mark the coins as they changed hands.
