Actually there was only two MAIN people who were sent to explore the Louisiana territory.
Their names were Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. As they traveled through the territory they also met Sacajawea, who helped them on their journey.
(P.S. Sacajawea carried her baby on her back which believe it or not actually protected them from Indian raids. The Indians believe that a woman who carries a baby is considered harmless and so are the people she travels with.)

Explorers typically took resources that were new or hard to come by. The early explorers from Europe to the Americas took gold or silver in an attempt to gain financial support to continue their adventures. Other explorers such as Lewis and Clark brought back information that previously had only been known to Native people or trappers - one example being beaver furs.
The most famous are Lewis and Clark, guided by Pocahantos.

Meriwether Lewis and William Clark.
President Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark to explore the land acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. Lewis and Clark led the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804 to 1806, documenting and mapping the newly acquired territory.
Congress provided money for a team of explorers to study the new land.
The famous explorers, Lewis and Clark, did not in fact buy the Louisiana Territory. Rather, it was the American government, led by President Thomas Jefferson, that purchased Louisiana from the European nation of France in 1803.
Three explorers of the land purchased from France in the Louisiana Purchase include Lewis and Clark. Their guide on their exploration was Sacagawea.
