His plan had paid little attention to the presence of a children's nursery (or he may have valued it as a psychological benefit). Because he had personally scouted out the building it is difficult to accept his statement that he did not know of the children's presence.

The "bugs" placed by the FBI in the compound had evidence that a "fuel" was spread by the Davidians. Hay had been stacked up inside as a bullet block. These people, as much as they used firearms, knew hay would not stop a bullet. The hay was set to have the fire, Koresh preached about, spread more rapidly. Whether an explosion from the tear gas canister or an ignition from a Branch Davidian caused the fire is not important. The Branch Davidians had ample time to come out, surrender, and give up. They stayed and waited for the apocalypse in which Koresh taught. Either way, The Branch Davidians got what they had been looking for in their pursuit for salvation.
