The fossil evidence shows that primitive horses were once indigenous to the Americas, but that they became extinct long ago.
The Spanish reintroduced horses into Central and South America. Some horses escaped, and wild horses gradually migrated north into the North American prairies, where the American Indians tamed them. By the time of white settlement of the American West, the horses were well established. The new settlers simply assumed that horses had always been there.
for Howrse : Spanish
we do not know the full history of horses, but the prezewalski's horse originated in asia, and those horses are very primitive. they could have been alive (the breed, i mean for all you blondes. xD no offense just a joke) for thousands of years
Yes they did. Many historians believe that most of the development of horses began in North America. Scientists believe that the first horses (called Pliohippus) to evolve in North America appeared about 6 million years ago. For some unknown reason, horses (Equus) disappeared from the western hemisphere and were re-introduced by spanish explorers (after Columbus) in the sixteenth century.
In 1492 there were no "Plains nations" since there were no horses in North America.
Horses first arrived to the southeastern part of the United States when the Spaniards first landed in the last decade of the 1400s. They helped the Spaniards conquer Central America and establish colonies there and into South America, as well as up into North America, colonizing areas which are now California, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona. Of course where the Spaniards explored, the range of the horse followed suit. In their conquests came across First Nation tribes and battled with them. The Plains tribes often stole horses or took horses from their victories or escapes in battle, or acquired horses that had escaped from the Spanish colonies. These horses became an intrinsic part of the Plains First Nation's livelihoods, from transportation to hunting and battling other rival tribes.
Horses
Horses were first reintroduced to the Americas by the Spanish Explorers. Once there some of the horses escaped, were stolen or released and formed the feral Mustang herds that are now a symbol of the old west era.
Horses first returned with the Conquistadors, beginning with Columbus, who imported horses from Spain to the West Indies on his second voyage in 1493.
It depends on how 'prehistoric' you mean. Horses were introduced by Europeans. Answer2: Horses evolved over the North American and Eurasian continents before going extinct in North America during the last ice age. They were reintroduced by the Spanish Explorers in the 1500's.
Horses were in the American continents for a long time, when for an unknown reason, they went extinct. ?? Horses then were reintroduced to the America's when the Conquistadors from Spain arrived to explore the new world. (only the Spanish horses) The American mustangs/qh's have always been around they have never gone extinct; hence 'American' in their names they also migrated across the ice bridge as the cave men, and so many other animals did looking for food. here is a link: http://www.madsci.org/posts/archives/2000-06/960351408.Zo.r.html to the answer too

To be ridden: Horses were originally brought to America by the Conquistadors of Spain to be ridden. In colonial America though they used to horse both to ride and as draft animals.
Horses were used for many things like clothes, food, and the bones were used for arrows
The original horses in America were believed to have become extinct here many years ago. It is believed then, that it was the Spanish conquistadores who brought their horses with them in the 1500's via Mexico that restarted the North American horse population.
Don't know ... was it Africa? Or Spain? Or is Spain just where we got them for North America?
the first horse was found in Arabia Actually the first horses developed over the continents of North America and Eurasia, however they died out in North America. True breeds of horse developed after the horse was established as a species.
the first people to bring horses to America were the spanish people or spaniards.
