∙ 7y agoThe pro-Union governor of Texas was Sam Houston. He was the only Southern governor that opposed secession. The leading secessionist in Texas was the US Senator Williamson S.Oldham. Houston refused to pledge loyalty to the new Confederacy and the secession convention had him removed as governor. Houston died in 1863.
