They were called Dorians. They came from the parts north from Macedonia and headed down to the south through Greece forcing the Ionians and Aeolians (populations already inhabiting the greek peninsula) to migrate to Asia minor or head even souther. They were rough military people. They spoke linear B and brought with them the art of manipulating steel to form weapons and tools, an art unknown to Greeks up to that time.
