During World War II, the Pacific Theater of Operations involved many different nations, ethnicities, and territories -- and all branches of the military forces involved. The principal combatants, however, were Imperial Japan and the United States.

∙ 12y agoThe World War 2 in the Pacific region was a continuation of the Second Sino-Japanese War, which the Japanese broadened significantly in their attempts to both increase the size of the Japanese Empire, and acquire new Natural Resources to enhance their economy.
The following countries fought in some manner in the Pacific Theater (which included the Indian, Indochinese, Chinese, SouthWestern Pacific, and Central Pacific Theaters):
- Empire of Japan and possessions
- Republic of China
- United States of America
- United Kingdom and British Empire
- Australia
- Dutch Republic and colonies
- New Zealand
- French Republic colonies
- Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
- Dominion of Canada
- Kingdom of Thailand
With the exception of the above countries, those countries nominally part of the Allied or Axis alliances did NOT materially participate in the Pacific War portion of WW2. In addition, many current-day countries were part of one of the various Empires of the time, and, while they definitely fought in the Pacific War, they were not a distinct political entity at the time.
