People wanted the province of Quebec should become an independent country. Separatists asked for a vote on whether Quebec should become independent.
"non ingérence, non indifférence" France doesn't promote the independance of quebec and help "souverainiste" but if the quebec become independent, France will be the first to recognize the new country because of the strong economics and cultural relations with the province
Because they speak French, and the rest of the country speak another language. So they are afraid of losing their culture. also if they break apart the will critisize other people.

NO...the Confederate States of America only wanted to separate from the Union or northern states and become independent not unlike the American colonies wanted to become independent from Great Britain.
