The settlement in the west affected the native Americans that lived there because once us Americans kept on pushing west after making Ohio a state we pushed into new areas .we settled in the territory of Indiana and other lands further west and the tide of settlement had a grave impact on native Americans like exposing them to disease's such as small pox, measles, and influenza killed thousands of them.and settlers took over a large part of there hunting grounds.took the forest for there farming. native Americans tradition, pover, home, life, and population declined.and that's how the settlement in the west affected the native Americans)

To answer the first part of the question, there is no simple, nor no one answer to who settled the West. There were any number of movements west during the course of American history. I suppose one way to put it is that it was Manifest Destiny that settled the West. It was inevitable that Americans would move west as land became crowded along the East Coast as populations expanded. My suggestion is to go to a library and find some books on Westward expansion. I'm sure you can find thousands on it.

To answer the second part of your question, do you think that Native Americans lived on reservations when European colonists first arrived? No. Do you think that Native Americans had to give up much of their culture in order to assimilate to "Western" (at the time European) society? No, they lived freely in the vast territories that weren't colonized by a European power. Look up the Trail of Tears and read about the atrocities that occurred. Again, my suggestion is go to a library and find any one of the multitude of books about the impact that American colonization and expansion had on the Native Americans. The books you will find will be better qualified to give you a more complete answer than anyone on this website.
