Eight presidents were born before July 4, 1776 and so were British subjects. They were the first seven presidents plus the Ninth, Harrison. (Van Buren, the 8th president was born during the Revolutionary War. He was a therefore a British subject under British law, I think, until the war ended and the US was recognized as independent. )
