The Visigoths (as they were called) were a Germanic tribe, originally living in what now is the Ukraine. who over a period of about 40 years wandered west, ending up in Italy and Spain.
They stood out from the many other tribes wandering into the Roman Empire, because they managed to conquer the city of Rome and established two kingdoms: one in (southern) Italy itself, and one in Spain, covering almost the whole of present-day Spain and Portugal. Their conquest of Rome is considered by historians the beginning of the end of the western Roman Empire, which occurred some 50 years later.
Tartars, Moors, Celts, Visgoths and Vandals.
The Visigoths did not capture Rome. They besieged it three times and of the third occasion they sacked it and then left. They left before the Roman army from other parts of the Roman Empire could be mobilised against them.
