After Diane Neal's role as ADA Casey Novak, Michaela McManus will play the role of ADA Kim Grayleck starting season ten. I made a mistake saying that she would be playing "Pietta O'Mara". I got that from Wikipedia (i think) but I think that Kim Grayleck is accurate; it is from the producer of SVU's production blog. Sorry for the error!

What does ADA mean on Law and Order LA?

An ADA is an Assistant District Attorney. In most cities, the District Attorney is an administration official, usually elected. The ADAs do most of the actual prosecution of criminal cases and will hold their jobs from one administration to the next. The job of the District Attorney's office is to prosecute the criminal cases brought to them by law enforcement agencies (police, sheriff, state police, etc.) and are usually representing the county. They prosecute cases from all the cities and towns within that county, usually in a county courthouse.

What are the main similarities between Law and Order and Law and Order SUV?

Both shows have two very important parts- the police who investigate the crimes and the district attorneys who prosecute the crimes in court. Law and Order involves a group of deectives who investigate various crimes from bank robberies, to muggings, to rapes and murders. Then the district attorney prosecutes the suspect in court. In Law and Order SVU, the group of detectives belong to a special division of the NYPD that investigates only sexually based crimes. Then the district attorney's office has a special attorney assigned to prosecute these specific suspects. Both shows have the same idea. Law and order focuses more on the lawyers while Law and Order SUV focuses more on the investigation by deectives and phsychologists.

What kind of a education do you need to become a district attorney?

You need a bachelor's degree (4 yrs) and a law degree (3 yrs). It may be helpful to take criminal law classes while in law school, but this is not usually required.
