The principal contemporary historian was Thucydides, who wrote a very reliable account. His work ended in 411 BCE, and the remainder of the war was taken up, apparently seamlessly, by Xenophon. However comparison of this account with other sources shows that it is flawed and often unreliable. Later secondary historians include Diodorus Siculus, whose accounts are generally extremely unreliable.
Thucydides covered the period 431-411 BCE; Xenophon covered 411-404 BCE.

Thucidides wrote a history of the Peloponnesian War up to 411 BCE, and for some reason left off. Xenephon then took it up to the completion of the war in 404 BCE.
The Thucydides one is held to be accurate. It was for a long time thought that Xenephon's was similarly accurate, but more recent comparisons of his story with other sources shows that it is in many ways inaccurate and biased.

He was blamed for the loss of one of the cities and while in exile, he wrote The History of the Peloponnesian War. He was one of the first real historians, using information derrived from both sides of the war, and did not include anything religious. So he was one of the first to write a real history, instead of a religious story to explain what happened.
