This was also the time of Ashoka the Great of the Maurya Dynasty. It is known that Ashoka was strongly influenced by the Arthashastra and he also had a great deal of contact with the Greek Philosophers of the time. It therefore seems highly likely (at least in my view) that Niccolò Machiavelli gained some knowledge of the Arthashastra during his study of Greek Philosophy. I would go further than that though. It is my conjecture that Machiavelli was adept at plagiarizing the Arthashastra. If this is true then works such the his masterpiece the Prince should be attributed to Chāṇakya (c.350 -383 BCE).
