the reason an engine "jerks" is because all of the fuel going into the cylinders are is not completely burning thus causing a loss of power...

Remove the cover on the steering column. Then remove the screw holding the plastic cover around the switch. Then turn the key while pushing in on the tab below the switch, it will click and then you can pull it out.

That engine is an interference engine. If you try to turn the camshaft while the timing belt is removed the valves will make contact with the pistons. If you try to force the cam to turn you will do serious damage.
Change your cables they might be old and arcking...while your at it change your spark plugs
