There is a switch located on your brake pedal arm that turns on and off your brake lights as you brake. The switch is either defective or needs adjusting. The switch is nothing more than a button that is pressed when you release your brake pedal. If you follow your brake pedal arm upwards, you'll find a small plastic mechanism with two wires coming from them (the switch) and you can adjust it by turning a round nut to bring the switch closer or farther away from the arm of your brake pedal. If your button of your switch is not touching the arm your lights will remain on. The arm is suppose to press the button when you release the brake. If however your arm is pressing the button, check to make sure the two wires are not touching in any way. If all looks find and your lights are still on, replace the switch by unscrewing the nut of the switch all the way off and the switch will come down far enough for you to unplug the wires. Installation will be the reverse. Hope this helps.
2003 Hyundai Elantra BulbTroubleshooting (check in this order):
· Check Bulbs
· Check Relay(s)
· Check Light Switch(es)
· Check license plate light bulb and wiring
· Check trailer hitch wiring harness
· Check all wiring harnesses and wire
Most likely its bad bulb or connection shorting the circuit. Sometimes the license plate light/wiring and/or the trailer hitch is wired into other circuits and can cause issues in other areas. Sometimes its wires grounding out somewhere on the vehicle. See sources and related links below for bulb information. See owner's manual for location and identification of fuses.
change the bulbs and fuses
That depends on the individual vehicle. There is an adjustable electric switch under the dash that is actuated by the brake pedal movement. Normally this switch can be adjusted from having the brake lights on all the time to never having them come on at all. Obviously the correct adjustment is to light the lights when the pedal has moved a short distance but before the brakes are actually being applied.
Turn signal lights that double as parking (marker lights) when not blinking.
Ghosts are definitely scared of lights. Yes, lights can really kill ghosts.
Runway Lights was created in 2011.
From inside the luggage area. There are either wing-nuts and or screws.
If parking lights stay on after the car is turned off on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra than the brake switch is malfunctioning. The brake switch turns off when pressed in and if it does not work the lights of the vehicle will stay on.

no it does not. I have a 99 elantra. It only has the warning sound for leaving the key in and opening the door. I have forgotten my lights on several times because of it.
first of all do you have any dash lights coming on.(is there power from the battery)
it would be the brake light switch about 20 dollars at autozone
I believe that it is illegal to run fog lights and high beams together, however I could be wrong.
Check your fuses. If they are all good and none are blows, you probably have a short somewhere in the electrical lines.
I have read that you need a "powered" wiring harness because the Elantra routes the tail lights through a computer that cannot handle the extra amperage necessary to drive a trailer's lights. A powered harness connects directly to the battery for power and taps the tail-light wires to control relays.
a mi me paso eso se arregla con solo cambiar el relay de luces y punto ya vuelve las luces a prender....
I had the same problem. It turned out the ABS relay was shot.
Chjeck the brake light switch located somewhere on the brake pedal lever.
